The foundation of our meat herd was purchase entirely from Lone Pine Farm. These animals where chosen for theirSpanish/Boer cross hardiness due to strong Spanish and Kiko influence.  Another factor is that their size is from the Boer influence and they have an increased growth rate due to their good milk supply which stems from their Nubian genetics.

We have introduced the Lamancha dairy breed in 2008 to add to the mix. Lamanchas are known for their quiet temperament, great milk supply, and meatiness. The Boer Goat continues to have a strong influence on our cross breeding meat goat program.

The ultimate goal in our commercial herd breeding program is to produce an animal with an average birth size for ease at kidding time, but fast gain to reach finishing weight in a shorter period of time.

We do believe the genetic diversity in our commercial meat operation is a key factor to creating a fast growing and hardy commercial goat.

Our Commercial Breeding Stock

We presently have 50 does in our commercial breeding herd. All does or doelings sold at Spruce Haven Farms are breeding stock quality, no cull are sold as a breeding animal.  All stock which are sold are vaccinated; hooves  trimmed, and health records and parentage accompany every animal. Kidding records are also provided with any older animal sold.

We also keep a few of our top commercial bucklings to offer as breeding bucks. These bucklings are selected for their conformation as well as their growth rate.
