The Adolphson Family

Our family has been involved in different aspects of the agriculture industry for most of our lives. Keith Adolphson was raised on a grain farming operation and has been involved in the beef cattle industry in Valleyview Alberta for many years. He is a “Jack Of All Trades”, which is a great asset for our farming operation! Livestock hauling, carpentry, road building, mechanic, and even a little welding, he can do it all…

I, Helene Adolphson, was raised near a dairy farm in East-Farmham Quebec, where I spent most of my youth taking part of the daily farming operations. I was a member of the Cowansville 4-H calf club for a total of 6 years showing Ayrshire and Jersey dairy cattle. Showing and taking care of livestock has always been a passion of mine. Goat management was a natural fit for my personality and our family.

I  presently have the previledge of holding the position of president of the Canadian Cashmere Producers Association. I also serve the CCPA as chair of the 4H as well as cashmere event committee. I am also the Cahsmere cordinator of cashmere events coordinator at the Old’s Fibre Week events.

Cassidy

Jr. farm hands Cassidy (7) and Tate (4 1/2 have been involved in the everyday operations of Spruce Haven Farms ever since they have been able to walk. They are quite an asset when it comes time to “round up” the goats! Cassidy is now the proud owner of two goats which she is raising and plans to start showing as soon as possible.

Our interest in the goat industry first began a few years ago, after months of intensive research. We were looking for a type of livestock that did not require an expensive handling facility or a vast amount of land. These animals also had to be easily managed by me and safe for our kids. We were looking for a profitable industry with great potential. What we found was the goat industry and we have never regretted it!

Unlike other agricultural industries, goat production is young, growing, and full of potential. The demand for goat meat surpasses the production with 96% of the meat having to be imported for consumption in Canada. The goat breeding stock sales are also on the rise due to this increasing demand for goat meat. The dual purpose of our Cashmere and meat herd is definitely a benefit to our farm’s bottom line.
