We are a small, family operation dedicated in raising quality breeding stock and consistent quality Cashmere and meat products.

Our vision

By diversifying our farming operation within the goat industry, we are tapping into multiple marketing opportunities while raising all of our livestock under the same management practices.

At Spruce Haven Farms, we are dedicated to improving the quality of our breeding stock. Our goal is to raise hardy and dual purpose animals who would be an asset to any farming operation. We offer post sale support to all our customers no matter what the size of the purchase.

We have chosen to diversify our farm by raising two different herds of goats to help us face the economical challenges of today’s

Cashmere Goats

These goats are a great dual purpose animal. Our Cashmere goats provide us with quality breeding stock, cashmere production, and our excess young buckling are sold to the commercial meat market. In 2008 we have purchased the Riversong herd and have been working on additional imports to keep improving our cashmere fiber as well as the confirmation of our stock.

I am proud to presently be the president of the Canadian Cashmere Producers Association. I  am dedicated to promote cashmere here in Canada and North America.

Meat Goat

Our meat herd provides us with both quality commercial breeding stock for sale and goat meat for retail sale. Our breeding meat does are predominately Spanish, for their hardiness and great mothering instinct which are cross bred with dairy and Boer bucks to obtain a superior milk supply as well as a faster growth rate for the kids.

Boer Goats

We raise a limited number of  traditional Boer goats to use in our cross breeding program as well as sale of breeding stock. Any animal which does not fit into our standards of quality is culled for meat.

Due to the genetic diversity in our breeding programs, we are able to offer starter herds to new goat breeders as well has new genetics for established operations.

Spruce haven has just jmported a new Cashmere buck from Liberty Farm, located in Yakima Washington. We are presently working on a  Cashmere semen import in effort to bring 2 news additional genetic lines to our mix.

What is are “Cashmere sweater herds”?

These herds are composed of three cashmere wether (castrated male goats) and are great for any one who is not looking to become a cashmere breeder, but would still like to own a few goats to harvest their own cashmere, card, spin and knit garments with their own hands!

Once these wether have grown to their full size ( 3 years), they will supply you with enough cashmere to allow you to knit a large 100% cashmere sweater each and every year… Where comes the name: Cashmere sweater herd!
